The European Patients’ Forum (EPF) have launched their ‘Summer Training Course for Young Patients Advocates’, taking place for the first time in July 2017. This leadership programme is an exciting opportunity offering training to young patient advocates and representatives of young patients who have the motivation to learn more about advocacy and maximise their leadership potentials.

Participants, who must be aged between 18 and 30 from Europe, will have the opportunity to take part in an online assessment between April and May 2017, identifying their knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and skills. This will enable the trainers to design individualised resources for the face-to-face component of the programme, which will take place in Vienna, Austria, between Monday 03 July and Wednesday 05 July 2017. The face-to-face training course will focus on:
  • Self-leadership, where participants will assess their leadership roles and will learn how to become more resilient.
  • Leading patient advocacy organisations, where participants will practice how to initiate changes within patient organisations to organise themselves and face challenges.
  • Leading for influencing changes at the institutional level, where participants will develop advocacy strategies in order to overcome discriminatory practices.
  • Leading for influencing societal change, where participants will explore various real case studies about people rights movement across the world and their long-term efforts in changing misperceptions and prejudices.
During the sessions, participants will gain insight into the complexity of such issues and will address them through interactive debates, individual and group exercises and tailored advocacy campaigns which will be implemented in their respective organisations and countries. After the face-to-face training course, there will be a follow-up phase, where the trainers will provide guidance, individual support and advice to each participant during the implementation of their advocacy campaigns. For your chance to be part of the course, check you are eligible to apply and submit your application before Friday 03 February 2017.
