Living with arthritis and related rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions as a young person can be tough. From dealing with the symptoms, to managing treatments, appointments, and different healthcare professionals – it can be pretty challenging! Add in all the normal things in your life, such as school, work, family and friends, and sometimes it can just feel overwhelming.

Now you have a chance to tell healthcare professionals and researchers what it’s really like to live with a rheumatic or musculoskeletal condition as a young person. If you are aged 10 to 24, and have arthritis, or another related condition such as lupus, dermatomyositis, or scleroderma, you could write a few sentences or a short paragraph (100 to 150 words) that will feature in the final chapter of a medical book that will soon be published by Springer, called ‘Adolescent and Young Adult Rheumatology in Clinical Practice’. You can write about your experience, or what rheumatology services should look like for young people, or how young people like you should be involved in the designing future healthcare services for other young people. If you are interested in contributing, or want to find out more, please email Laura Lunt: laura.lunt@manchester.ac.uk or call Laura on: 0161 275 1901. You’ll need to send in your writing by 31st December 2017 – good luck!
