As many of you will know, I am currently in the second year of my PhD, which is based within the School of Healthcare, under the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds. The School of Healthcare is engaged in a range of innovation activities designed to improve health and social care practice and services. From a teaching perspective, the School offers internationally respected degrees in Adult, Child and Mental Health Nursing, Midwifery and Social Work. The School of Healthcare also offers a wide variety of postgraduate taught programmes to enhance opportunities for practitioners in the healthcare profession, as well as PhD opportunities too. Research within the school is grouped under a series of research themes, including: ‘decision making’, ‘long-term conditions’, ‘medicines optimisation’, ‘mental health’, ‘skin and wound care’, and ‘maternal, child and family health’.

Maternal, Child and Family Health

The Maternal, Child and Family Health research group unites academics together with postgraduate researchers undertaking applied health research to inform national and international policy and practice in maternal, child and family health. The research group synthesise evidence and undertake primary research using mixed methods, qualitative and quantitative methods, so there’s a real vibrant mix of skills within the group, evident by the diverse backgrounds of members, who include: midwives, nurses, psychologists, sociologists, epidemiologists, and expert patients. Twice a year, the Maternal Child and Family Health research group publish a newsletter, highlighting some of the many achievements from within the school. These include publications, conference presentations, book chapters and awarded grants. Please do take a look at our latest newsletter which was published earlier this month, to get a flavour of the exciting and innovative work that is taking place right here in Leeds!
