Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition characterised by widespread pain and profound fatigue. It’s not clear exactly how many people are affected by fibromyalgia, although research has suggested it is a relatively common condition affecting around 1 in 20 people to some degree. Other symptoms of fibromyalgia often include unrefreshing sleep, headaches, an irritable bowel, cognitive disturbances, dizziness and sensitivity to environmental factors.

During Fibromyalgia Awareness Week 2018 (Sunday 2nd to Sunday 9th September 2018), Fibromyalgia Action UK and others will be raising awareness of fibromyalgia, and the impact it has on those living with fibromyalgia, and their friends and family. Given that fibromyalgia is an invisible disease, it is so important that we raise awareness of fibromyalgia, in order to broaden perceptions, knowledge and understanding of this condition. Fibromyalgia Action UK’s theme for awareness week builds upon the theme for awareness day on 12th May 2018. ‘Don’t Delay, Connect Today’ aims to highlight that early diagnosis and recognition of fibromyalgia, and timely access to evidence-based treatment and support is essential for the long-term health and wellbeing of those living with fibromyalgia and their families.
