Since Thursday 1st November 2018, some cannabis-based products have been available for prescription in the United Kingdom (UK). Some people with fibromyalgia have said that they use cannabis-based products to help with pain relief, but at Fibromyalgia Action UK, we would like to know a little more about people’s thoughts and experiences on this important topic.

Fibromyalgia Action UK, a charity of which I am a trustee of, has been invited to comment on the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)’s draft scope guidelines on ‘Cannabis-based products for medicinal use’, which have been released for consultation. As a registered stakeholder, Fibromyalgia Action UK, along with a variety of other organisations in the UK, have an opportunity to be able to provide feedback prior to the guidelines being developed. As research liaison at the charity, I felt it was vital that we open up this feedback opportunity to a wider group of people with fibromyalgia, in the form of an online survey. In addition to providing feedback to NICE, this is also a good opportunity to better understand people’s experiences specifically related to the use of cannabis-based products for helping to manage fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia Action UK will use responses to: i) Share feedback on the draft scope guidelines published by NICE; and ii) Publish findings from this survey about experiences of using cannabis-based products among people with fibromyalgia, which may include direct quotes. The survey can be accessed by clicking this link. This survey is completely anonymous as well.
