The NIHR Manchester Clinical Research Facility are launching a brand new Young People’s Advisory Group in healthcare research, supported by the Public Programmes Team who are a specialist unit supporting patients and the public to be involved in healthcare research across Greater Manchester.
If you are aged 11 to 24, living in Greater Manchester, and have an interest in healthcare research, then this is the group for you! No experience is necessary either! However, it would be equally as great to hear from young people living with musculoskeletal conditions (e.g. arthritis and lupus), respiratory conditions (e.g. asthma), skin conditions (e.g. psoriasis and eczema), hearing conditions, and cancer.
The first face-to-face meeting will take place on Saturday 02 December 2017 at Ziferblat in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, from 1 to 4 pm. Don’t worry if you can’t attend this meeting either – there’ll be others in the future, as well as opportunities to stay connected and get involved online.
For the first face-to-face meeting, the team have an exciting range of activities designed to get you thinking about what is healthcare research and how you can get involved in how it is done. It is hoped that the first meeting will give you the chance to talk to people involved in healthcare research and get to know other young people who are interested in health research across Greater Manchester.
This will be your chance to shape the way young people can have a major impact on the way healthcare research is carried out across Greater Manchester. We want to ensure that we have the widest selection of young people’s experiences for this first event.
So if you would like to be at the meeting, tell or show the organising team why you want to get involved! You can be as creative as you want, but here’s some ideas to get you thinking:
- Write a few words about yourself;
- Write a poem or song;
- Share an image, short film or audio clip;
- Tweet your message to @researchdialog.
Send these to Steven at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Alternatively, if you have any questions about the group, or want to find out more, please tweet @researchdialog, email public email@example.com, or call 0161 276 3368.
